TMemorial ceremony was held for the 50th anniversary of death of Professor Cemil Topuzlu (1866-1958) who was the foremost of the pioneers of modern surgery inTurkey on April 10.

Dr Topuzlu is known as first to administer several procedures in medicine and surgery.To mention some:He was first to attempt open heart massage , first to perform arterial anastomosis (on axillary artery),and he contributed invaluable innovations to prevent surgical infections.He also served three years as the Mayor of Istanbul
